On June 17, with the completion of seamless welding for the last pair of 25-meter-long steel rails at Huishi Road Station, the section from Guling Station to Songjiazao Station (excluding) of Track Section I of Ningbo Rail Transit Line 6 — undertaken by the company — successfully achieved long rail connection. This milestone creates favorable conditions for the subsequent "four electrical systems" construction.
Project Overview
The first phase of Ningbo Rail Transit Line 6 starts from Ningbo Hub Station in the west, passing through Guling, Jishigang, Gaoqiao, Sanjiangkou, and the High-tech Zone, before terminating at Honglian Station. With a total length of approximately 39.6 kilometers, the entire line is underground and includes 24 stations. The company is responsible for track laying, turnout installation, and auxiliary equipment fitting for Track Section I. Specifically, the first-start segment (from Guling Station, inclusive, to Songjiazao Station, exclusive) involves laying 20.645 kilometers of track, installing 14 sets of turnouts, and handling 1,520 rail joints.
Rail Welding with New Energy Welding Machines
Since construction began on March 10, the project team has tackled challenges such as tight schedules, multiple scattered laying points, and cross-operation conflicts. Adhering to the principle of "prioritizing stability while pursuing progress," they adopted a synchronized approach of "leapfrog" short rail laying and long rail welding, injecting strong momentum into the project. Following the achievement of short rail connection on June 9, the team completed the remaining rail welding tasks in just 8 days, realizing the long rail connection for the section.
Welding Rails to the Connection Point
Leveraging the labor competition themed "Uniting Strength Under Yongcheng’s Red Party Flag, Striving for Excellence to Secure Rail Connection," the project department accelerated progress while ensuring quality. Guided by daily, weekly, and monthly plans, it optimized production resource allocation and adopted a "multi-point to line" strategy to meet construction deadlines. During peak construction, 44 sets of track-laying equipment were deployed across 7 workfaces, with over 600 builders working in shifts around the clock. Track laying and welding proceeded in parallel, driving the high-standard, high-quality advancement of Ningbo Rail Transit Line 6.
In practice, the team implemented standardized safe and civilized construction, adopted grid-based regional management, and strengthened "two lists and two cards" safety education for workers. Three red-flag responsibility zones and two grid units were established to safeguard construction safety and quality. The integration of new energy rail cars, new energy welding machines, and medium-frequency electric normalizing technology significantly enhanced the project’s green construction standards. To ensure welding quality, the team provided technical training for workers, deployed professional technicians to oversee every step of the welding process, and standardized welding, grinding, and inspection procedures — achieving first-pass quality excellence for all work.
It is reported that the first phase of Ningbo Rail Transit Line 6 is a key component of Ningbo’s Urban Rail Transit Third Phase Construction Plan (2021–2026). It will strengthen connectivity between the Ningbo West Hub, Guling-Jishigang residential area, Sanjiangkou core district, High-tech Zone, and Yongjiang Sci-Tech Innovation Zone, while serving passenger flow along the city’s east-west development axis. Upon completion, the project will enhance Ningbo’s internal and external transportation links, improve regional rail network layout, promote coordinated development in the Yangtze River Delta, and boost Ningbo’s overall competitiveness.
